Currently, we are looking for one (1) Airport Facilities Maintenance Worker.


Position Description:


This position is located at Melbourne Orlando International Airport in Melbourne, FL.


Under the general direction of the Commercial Business Center Supervisor the incumbent maintains and repairs airport, vendors, and tenants' buildings and facilities; and performs a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.


Essential Functions:

  • Operates a wide range of vehicles and trucks, power and hand tools including but not limited to shovels, rakes, files, pliers, ratchet, wrenches, drills, chippers, mowers, weed eaters, edger's clippers, chain saws, pole saws, demo saws, street saws, compactors, sandbaggers, and other related equipment used in maintenance
  • Responds to vendor and tenant complaints/inquiries and work orders
  • Carries out assigned tasks through utilization of materials and assigned personnel in a courteous and timely manner
  • Maintains municipal grounds and restores job sites to original condition by mowing cleaning drainage ditches, installing fences and guard rails, cutting trees, raking, restoring irrigation systems, and other landscaping type jobs
  • Secures buildings when not in use; checks for unlocked doors and windows and reports
  • Inspects roadways and taxiways

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year experience in commercial building maintenance
  • Experience with interpreting and reading Safety Data Sheets
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver License
  • Must be able to pass Federal fingerprint-based criminal background check
  • Must attend FAA Security Standards Class and successfully pass a test with a minimum score of 70

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices
  • Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, light trucks, mowers, and equipment used in building maintenance
  • Knowledge of essential safety equipment and protective devices able to use basic hand tools and small power tools safely
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and small power tools safely
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, light trucks, mowers, and equipment used in building maintenance
  • Ability to work courteously and effectively with others as a member of a repair and/or maintenance crew directed
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to interpret and accurately complete daily work order forms
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English
  • Ability to get along with the public in a fast-paced airport environment
  • Ability to install all types of fences
  • Ability to periodically go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, move back and forth and sideways while in that position, or vice-versa
  • Ability to learn simple to complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles (pickup trucks, vans, etc.), load and unload vehicles with objects weighing no more than 50 pounds
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude while working in close proximity with others in confined spaces and/or under situations of duress
  • Ability to assume responsibility for work to be done and public safety in/around job site
  • Ability to receive instructions and constructive criticism from departmental management.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Heavy lifting and the ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Prolonged periods of standing in place, bending stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders
  • Ability to perform manual labor and strenuous work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to learn, understand, and remember normal tasks
  • Ability to hear, speak, and understand conversation in English in a normal tone of voice
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to see and read letters, numbers, characters, or symbols and identify colors
  • Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrist, and fingers
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to perform hard manual labor
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to lift large pieces of equipment including bending and squatting
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to work various shifts
